How we picked these companies
Every company on this list meets three tests: it is headquartered in New York City, it raised money in 2025 or 2026, and it had open New York roles on its public job board on October 20, 2026. Fresh funding matters for job seekers because it usually means 18 to 36 months of runway and a hiring plan. We ranked by the number of open NYC roles, and noted which companies also appear on LinkedIn’s 2026 Top Startups lists or Built In NYC’s 2026 awards, which use employee and hiring data.

Where the jobs are
- AI companies are hiring hardest. EliseAI, Profound, Rogo, Reflection AI, Clay and Modal Labs together list more than 350 New York openings.
- Fintech is back. Ramp alone lists 142 New York roles after raising $1.85 billion in October 2026, and prediction markets Kalshi and Polymarket list more than 40 each.
- Health care hiring is partly remote. Allara lists 216 roles but only 17 in New York, because most are clinicians who work remotely.
How to get hired at a New York startup
- Apply right after a round. Hiring plans follow funding announcements. Our weekly list of NYC startups that raised money in 2026 shows who just closed one.
- Go to the job board, not the aggregator. Most companies above post on Ashby or Greenhouse first; LinkedIn and Indeed copies can lag or go stale.
- Expect equity in the offer. Ask for the number of shares, the latest preferred price or 409A valuation, and the exercise window, so you can value it.
- Show you understand the business. A short note about the product, its customers and where you would help beats a generic cover letter.
