Editorial standards
The rules we hold ourselves to when we write about financing.
Startups #nofilter has been written and edited by founder Solomon Wiesen since 2015. These standards govern everything we publish.
Independence. We earn money from some referrals and from advertising, as set out in our advertiser disclosure. Compensation never decides what we write, including criticism of merchant cash advances and their costs.
We do not promise approvals. No legitimate lender can guarantee approval before underwriting an actual application. We never claim guaranteed approval, “no credit check” outcomes or specific rates, regardless of what a lender’s own advertising says.
We show the annualized cost. A factor rate is not an interest rate. Where a product is priced with a factor rate, we also show the equivalent annualized cost, with our assumptions stated, so readers can compare it to a loan.
Sourcing. Legal and regulatory claims cite the statute, regulation, court record or official source. Cost examples show their assumptions.
We hedge legal claims appropriately. Financing law varies by state and changes over time. Where we describe a legal rule, such as New York’s 2019 confession-of-judgment reform, we describe it in general terms and say plainly that this is not legal advice. We are not a law firm, and nothing here is a substitute for a lawyer reviewing your specific agreement.
Fact-based criticism. When we discuss a named company, we rely on public records, filings and documented settlements, not rumor.
Dates. Financing guides show when they were last updated. Founder interviews are left as originally published. Legal content is reviewed at least every 12 months, or sooner when the law changes.
Corrections. If a figure, a date or a legal detail on this site is wrong, tell us through our contact page. We correct factual errors promptly, and significant corrections are noted at the end of the article with the date.
Effective October 8, 2026.
