NYC congestion toll calculator for trucks
By Solomon Wiesen, editor. Updated October 2026. Rates from the MTA’s toll schedule.
Cars pay the Manhattan congestion toll once a day. Trucks pay it every time they enter. A box truck that goes in twice on a weekday morning pays $28.80 with E-ZPass; a tractor-trailer pays $43.20. Enter how your trucks use the zone to see what the toll costs per day, month and year, and how much moving entries to overnight hours would save.
Congestion toll per entry by vehicle
MTA congestion relief zone toll with E-ZPass, at or below 60th Street. Peak is 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends.

Crossing credits apply only with E-ZPass, only at peak, and only at the four tolled entries; the tool uses the maximum credit. Cars, pickups and small vans are charged at most once a day; the tool charges the peak rate if any entry that day is at peak. Exempt vehicles and discount plans are not modeled.

Toll rates in 2026

| Large trucks (multi-unit), tour buses | $21.60 | $5.40 | $32.40 | $8.10 | Every entry |
| Passenger vehicles, including pickups and small vans | $9.00 | $2.25 | $13.50 | $3.30 | Once a day |
Peak hours are 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Every other hour is overnight, and the overnight toll is 75% lower. Tolls by Mail cost about 50% more than E-ZPass, and the MTA bills by mail whenever the plate on the truck does not match the plate on the E-ZPass account, so check your account every time you add or re-plate a truck.
Where the zone starts
The Congestion Relief Zone is Manhattan south of and including 60th Street. The FDR Drive, the West Side Highway (Route 9A) and the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel connections to West Street are outside it, so a truck that stays on those roads and leaves without using local streets is not charged. You pay to enter, not to leave or to drive around inside.
Tunnel crossing credits
If you pay with E-ZPass and enter at peak through the Lincoln, Holland, Hugh L. Carey or Queens-Midtown tunnel, the toll you already paid earns a credit against the congestion toll: up to $7.20 for a small truck, up to $12 for a large truck and up to $3 for a passenger vehicle. There are no credits overnight or for Tolls by Mail.
What it adds up to
| Operation, E-ZPass, 22 days a month | Per month | Per year |
|---|---|---|
| One box truck, one peak entry a day | $316.80 | $3,801.60 |
| One box truck, two peak entries a day | $633.60 | $7,603.20 |
| Three box trucks, two peak entries a day | $1,900.80 | $22,809.60 |
| One tractor-trailer, one peak entry a day | $475.20 | $5,702.40 |
| One box truck, one overnight entry a day | $79.20 | $950.40 |
Because trucks pay per entry, the cheapest change is usually routing: finish every Manhattan stop on one entry instead of leaving to reload and coming back. The second is timing. A delivery that can be received before 5 a.m. on a weekday costs a quarter of the peak toll.
Rate increases ahead
The current rates are set through 2027. The program’s schedule raises them in steps after that toward the full rates in the original plan, which were $24 for small trucks and $36 for large trucks at peak. Budget for the increase, and check mta.info for the rates in effect before you price contracts that run past 2027.
Passing the cost to customers
Many carriers and suppliers serving Manhattan now add a congestion zone line to the invoice instead of folding it into the rate. If you do, state it in the rate confirmation or contract before the load, show it per entry, and drop it on overnight deliveries where the toll is lower. A customer who sees the toll itemized is also more likely to accept an early delivery window.
Tolls and cash flow
Tolls are paid now and recovered from customers weeks later, along with fuel, insurance and repairs. If that gap is what you are financing, start with the options and costs on our NYC trucking financing page.
